The Simpson English Department provides a balanced study of literature and creative writing. Taught by prize-winning scholars, poets and fiction writers, Simpson English majors and minors can develop sensitivity to language, form, and ideas that provide both for understanding and enjoyment of literature and for quality in their own writing.
The Simpson College English department offers a number of engaging opportunities beyond the classroom. The Sequel, Simpson's literary and arts journal edited by students, annually features creative writing, photography, and art by Simpson students and faculty members. Simpson hosts an annual Poets and Writers Series, featuring readings by well-known authors. Other writing opportunities on campus include student-led organizations like The Simpsonian, the campus newspaper, and Zenith, the campus yearbook.
